Say My Name - ski movie

have you heard of SAY MY NAME the ski movie starring Utah skier Grete Eliassen and a bunch of her  pro-skier girlfriends? filmed last winter by Stan Evans and edited over the summer, the movie has been doing the rounds at some of the indie-film fests.

and now you can download SAY MY NAME on i-tunes

last spring Grete set the world hip record for women [31 feet !]. fearless and one of the world's best all-round skiers, she has won the XGames Superpipe and US Open Slopestyle many times and has raced for the Norwegian ski team.

the first snowfalls are looking good and all over Europe, Japan and North America the lifts are turning and the ski resorts are having opening day celebrations.

the team at Chicks with Stix is going to be heading in all directions and we will have reports coming in from  athletes and coaches in the US Europe and Japan. meanwhile did you know that Katya, Anna and Nat all have their own blogs ? these girls know how to have fun on and off the slopes.

Katya has already got some early training in October, on the glaciers in Europe, with the Australian Ski Cross National Team. check out her story on the world's biggest bungy jump!

Anna has just landed in Norway and then she is heading to Breckenridge for the season - wishing her all the best in her first few weeks back on snow since breaking her ankle at the RipCurl Freeride Pro a few months ago.

Nat has a neat blog - she's been focusing on her fine arts degree and her life at uni and preparing for her final show. there's sure to be more snowy escapades as soon as she settles in to her US base and starts competing !

so remember to add the links to your list of things to read and check in regularly for training updates, travel adventures and competition results.

spring throwdown

Our Spring Throwdown weekend was an eventful one, there were thrills, spills and a lot of rain. On Saturday Mt Buller, TBR and Roxy hosted the premier Chicks with Stix Freeride Event: The Spring Throwdown on the lower half of Chamois.

Despite the torrential rain and sticky snow, chicks of all ages came out and threw-down. It was exciting to see so many keen girl skiers out, ready to take on the elements.

The judges were awed with the agressive skiing and massive airtime that the lady competitiors displayed.

The overall results were as follows:

All the winners took home an amazing array of prizes care of Roxy, including a long board snapped up by Torie Hamilton-Wilson.

As well as awesome skiing there were also some epic crashes in the repitoire- including an amazing front flip out of the double-stager by Pip Sparrow and some great ski ballet splits performed by Lucy Elam.

Thanks to all the girls who came out and braved the weather- you all did an amazing job as well -as a huge clap for Zoe Jaboor and all the Chicks with Stix team for pulling the comp together in such a crazy storm.

chick of the week

A big part of the Chicks with Stix initiative is to nominate our “Chick of the Week.” The Chick of the Week is a weekly award given out to a TBR (Team Buller Riders) girl who has been exceeding her coach’s expectations. Each week, all of the coaches get together and nominate a girl in their group who has been doing well and pushing their own boundaries.

The coaches fight it out until a winner –“Chick of the Week” - has been chosen.

So far our outstanding Chicks have included:

-Amber Turner who was nominated for her great progression on the trampoline.

- Annabel Stover who is killing it at moguls.

- Alex Write who has stepped up her own limits this year both in the air and on the snow.

- Pip Sparrow for being an all round mad dog and landing her first back flips on snow!

- Claudia Gueli who placed second in the Junior National Mogul Championships.

- Louise Pennington for going big off jumps and doing some sweet 3’s. This girl is one to watch out for!

Chicks with Stix is all about shredding and having fun together, and these girls have been doing both. I get a real buzz out of seeing girls pushing the limits and taking the sport to new places. You never know where it will lead, particularly when you think about how quickly our sport progresses.
