road trip!

Next week, the chix hit the road again, heading from our home base on Buller and landing on Baw Baw, Thredbo and Perisher, all in quick succession....

Visit our facebook page here for more information on the events and to let us know if you are planning to join up with us. We have created an events page for all our shred dates, right up to the end of the season. Hotham was so popular with more than 40 chicks turning up, so we're trying to plan ahead! So make sure to let us know if you're coming along and remember, we have giveaways a-plenty.

And thanks to ARMADA we also have skis and a sponsorship package to give to one lucky chick!

chix back at buller

all smiles

Our 4th Chicks with Stix session was held at Mt Buller on Saturday, on a beautiful blue bird Buller day with plenty of ski-able terrain waiting for us!

Our session started at 1.30 with Katya, Katie and I meeting 10 chicks. We started by hitting up Summit Slide with a few big turns led by Katya. Once our legs were well and truely warmed up we took some fast ones down to Howqua and then ended in the Koflers terrain park, where we picked up another 10 or so chicks to make a group of 20 - this was the opportunity for some chicks to try their first straight airs, 180's and 360's.

Zoe

We finished up our day in Koflers with some awards. Tayla got the Dragon goggles for putting down some solid 180's and Louise got scored the shafted ski poles for her awesome attitude. Both of these girls were charging all session and throwing down in the park.

At CwS we love to see girls who charge and continually push their boundaries to achieve a goal. For Tayla it was 180's and for Louise it was 360's. I cant wait to see what the future holds for these two girls ....awesome work Tayla and Louise!!

Junior Nationals

Hi Girls - It's Katie here and as you know there's nothing more I love than moguls and the first mogul competition is just around the corner, with the Junior Nationals (J Nats) only one week away. This year it is going to be an exciting two day competition for the first time, with a Singles on the Saturday and Duals on the Sunday. The most exciting part about all of this is that everyone gets to compete in at least one dual.

So if you have only ever competed in Interschools or even if you're a international super star, J Nats is a great competition for everyone born after 1992 (19 years).  With two jumps and at least 170m of bumps it is going to be a great competition filled with both competitors from Victoria and New South Wales.

So, whether it's practicing for interschools, or spinning for the first time in comp, brush the dust off your moguls skis girls come join this fun event on Chamois next weekend!

Can't wait to see you all there.

Please find the link here for more information. (entry details, competition times etc.)

HOTHAAAAAAAM !

As you chix all know by now, last weekend we hit the slopes at Hotham. It was  our first Chicks with Stix 'away session' and we couldn't have had a better welcome from the lovely Gina and her team... oh and from the mountain as well which decided to drop the most bountiful amount of fine Aussie snow in the days before we arrived!

Hotham was open for business and luckily, we had some local expertise to get us going....

ZOE SAYS : "I was totally blown away by the amount of interest we had at Hotham, our first Chix Session at a mountain away from home. And I was totally stoked by the 40+ chix that turned up - girls of all ages and all abilities. We definitely had some hot contenders for the mega ARMADA SPONSORSHIP deal that we are going to announce at the end of this season...."

"We had two new coaches joining us for the session, both long time friends of mine as well as rad chix to shred with. There was the smiley and bubbly Ali Deane and the smooth operator Hannah Studd. We were also helped along by our buddy Merrin Jockic.... thanks heaps girls !!!

"I had some incredible feedback from the girls and met some amazing and enthusiastic chix last weekend - I can't wait to get back to Hotham real soon!"

HANNAH SAYS : "Mount Hotham turned it on for us all last weekend. Saturday saw Blue skies sunshine and lots of smiling faces. There was a huge turn out of girls which was fantastic to see. The day kicked off with some warm up village loops and then we split the groups up a bit. My group found some natural hits under the heavenly chair in the morning and were trying some Indy grabs , alley oops on the walls, some presses and some ollie and nollie combos's.

All the girls were charging which was great to see, the girls from Dinner Plain were fantastic and so willing to learn, Tia picked up everything so quickly and Nicola winter took some great falls and got back up everytime with a smile! Good work girls!.  After lunch we hit up the summit park and hit the jumps small line, with a mix of grabs and some cab and front 180's being thrown down by all. Great attitudes on all the riders made for an all round awesome day. Thanks to everyone who came along and made Hotham Chix with stix session such a great success! Look foward to the next session... yewwww!

ALI SAYS : "Last weekend, the Chicks with Stix crew hit Mt Hotham for the first time, with a full gang of skiers, 15 snowboard debutants and some well-regarded new coaches!

The sessions were so fun, with the choice of skills to work on, and no commitments meant the freedom to cruise off anytime to freeride! It was a crisp start but the sun was shining, and with a great start to the season, Hotham turned it on snow-wise, with great cover and the whole resort open!

After a couple of warm-up runs, the crew split to mix things up, with short swing turns on Sun run with Zoe, park laps with Hannah, speedy, carving runs with Merrin down the Gunbarrel and 180’s with Ali! After lunch, we hit the Summit Park, and pulled off some sweet maneuvers for cameraman Karl (see our facebook page!), and watch this space for a sweet new go-pro edit by Zoe!

We made some new friends, learnt heaps, and we’re already looking forward to our next session, set to be at Mt Buller…..Stay tuned to check out when Chicks with Stix are set to hit your resort; we're looking forward to shredding with you soon!

Many thanks to all the awesome Chicks with Stix who joined us this weekend, Gina, Clare, Karl and Mimi from Mt Hotham, and most of all Zoe who made it all possible!........Ali xo!

session 2 at buller

Saturday was our second chix session at Buller and it was our biggest turnout ever - 36 chix rocked up and some serious girl power took over the mountain!

CwS coach Katya tells us more.....

"In the afternoon, the coolest chicks on the mountain all met at 3pm at Koflers for a quick hot chocolate before we ventured out for an hour and a half of skiing. Despite the weather not being 'brilliant', the snow was great and everyone was really enthusiastic. We skied the recently opened Standard Run, as well as a few down Shaky Knees. Due to the massive turn out, we decided to split the group into three. Zoe took the girls who were up for learning 180s; Katie, with her moguls experience, worked on short turns; and myself and Nat took those who were keen to try some big carve / big mountain turns.

We had girls of all ages and from all skiing backgrounds. Everyone seemed to have a really great time, meeting new people and doing what we all love... skiing!

At the end of the afternoon, the Chick of the day was awarded to Alice (from Australia's aerial development program) for nailing her first 180 spin! She won a pair of sexy hot pink poles, kindly donated by Shafted ski poles.

To finish up, the girls wound down by doing a one hour yoga session at the La Trobe Centre. A great way to finish off a fun afternoon!

I'm really looking forward to my next Chicks with Stix session !"

AND BIG SHOUT OUT TO HANNAH! she has been to both Buller sessions and drove up from Melbourne just to join us. that was KEEN and enough for her to get the first 'chick of the day' award!

NEXT WEEK HOTHAM !

a snowy update

well chix, if you read the snow report you will know that EVERY SINGLE RESORT is getting a very welcome dumping of snow! it started snowing yesterday and it's going to continue well into next week!

excited? just a bit !!!  Nat and I are up at Buller this week and it's pretty wild and windy out there right now. most of the chairs are on wind-hold :( but the wind is blowing the powder stashes all over the place, so there will be some nice skiing through the trees when it's all over :)

which means that the 2nd CHIX SESSION is going to be a whole lot of fun ! are you planning on joining us ? if so, drop us a line either here in the comments section or on our facebook events page here, or you can email us at chickswithstix.skiing@gmail.com

in other very exciting news overnight, the IOC [International Olympic Committee] has announced that slopestyle will be included at the next winter games in Sochi Russia 2014. woo-hoo !!!

that's pretty big news for Australia as we have 2 of the best slopestyle skiers in the world right now: Russ Henshaw and our very own CwS coach Anna Segal who is currently FIS Freestyle World Champion, a title she won over in Park City Utah earlier in the year [check out this chat I had with Anna straight after her win]
